The calculators, letters, checklists and articles on Renter Upgrades are general information. They aren’t legal, financial, tax, insurance, electrical or other professional advice, and using them doesn’t create any professional relationship.
Your lease and your state’s law come first
Leases differ, and so do state and local laws. A page can’t know the terms of your lease, where you live or the details of your situation. Before you act on anything here, especially about your deposit, your rent, a notice or a repair, read your lease and check the rules where you live. For legal questions, a local tenant organization, a legal aid office or a lawyer licensed in your state can help.
Calculators give estimates
Calculator results depend on what you enter and on the assumptions explained under each result. Measure carefully, check the product’s own instructions and ratings, and allow some margin. Product ratings, sizes and prices change, and manufacturers’ instructions always come first.
Letters and checklists
The templates are starting points. They don’t guarantee any result, and they leave deadlines, notice periods and legal details for you to fill in and check. You’re responsible for what you send and how you send it.
Safety
Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for anything you install, plug in or hang. Don’t overload outlets or extension cords, and ask your landlord or a qualified professional about anything involving wiring, gas, water lines or the building’s structure.
Sources and links
Pages link to outside sources so you can check them. Those sites are run by others, and their content can change after we last checked it. The date each source was checked is shown on the page.
No warranty
Renter Upgrades works hard to keep its pages accurate and current, but provides them “as is”, without warranties of any kind. See the terms of use for details.
