What gets collected
Information you give me
If you email me, I receive your email address and whatever you choose to write. If you send a photo of your apartment, I receive that too. I keep these messages so I can reply and so I can refer back to them later.
If comments are enabled and you leave one, the name, email address, and website you enter are stored along with your comment.
If you subscribe to an email list, your email address and first name are stored with the email provider I use at the time.
Information collected automatically
Like nearly every website, this one collects basic technical data when you visit. That includes your IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, the pages you view, how long you stay, and which site referred you.
This happens through analytics tools and standard server logs. It’s aggregate data. I use it to see which articles are useful and which ones aren’t, not to identify individual readers.
Cookies
Cookies are small files stored in your browser. This site uses them for a few things.
Essential cookies keep the site functioning, remember basic preferences, and handle things like comment fields.
Analytics cookies help measure traffic and understand how people move through the site.
Advertising and affiliate cookies are set by third parties. When you click an affiliate link, the retailer typically places a cookie so they can attribute a purchase back to this site. Amazon’s cookie, for example, lasts 24 hours.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. Some parts of the site may not work as well if you do.
Third party services
Several outside services touch data on this site. Each has its own privacy policy, and once data reaches them, their rules apply.
Google Analytics collects traffic and behavior data. See Google’s privacy policy. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt out browser add on.
Amazon Associates places cookies when you click product links so purchases can be attributed correctly. See Amazon’s privacy notice.
Other affiliate programs may operate the same way. They’re disclosed in the affiliate disclosure.
Advertising networks, if and when the site displays ads, may use cookies to show relevant advertising. Google’s ad practices are described in Google’s advertising policies.
Pinterest, Instagram, and other social platforms may collect data if the site embeds their content or if you interact with share buttons.
Hosting and site infrastructure providers process server logs as part of delivering the site.
How the information is used
To keep the site running and loading properly. To understand which content readers find useful. To reply to emails and comments. To improve articles and decide what to write next. To track affiliate referrals so commissions are credited correctly. To send emails if you specifically asked for them.
That’s the full list. Your information isn’t sold, rented, or traded.
How long things are kept
Emails are kept as long as they’re useful for reference. Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely unless you ask for removal. Analytics data is kept according to the retention settings of the analytics provider. Email subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request a copy of the personal data held about you, ask for it to be corrected, ask for it to be deleted, withdraw consent for processing, or opt out of marketing emails.
If you’re in the EU or UK, the GDPR gives you these rights.
If you’re in California, the CCPA gives you the right to know what personal information is collected and to request deletion. Renter Upgrades does not sell personal information as the CCPA defines it.

If you join an email list, every message includes an unsubscribe link. Clicking it removes you, and it takes effect quickly. You won’t be added to any list without opting in.
Children
This site isn’t directed at children under 13, and I don’t knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has submitted personal information here, email me and I’ll delete it.
External links
Renter Upgrades links out to retailers, other blogs, and various resources. Once you leave this site, this policy no longer applies. I have no control over how other sites handle your data, so read their policies if you’re concerned.
Security
Reasonable measures are in place to protect information, including a secure HTTPS connection. That said, no method of transmitting data over the internet is completely secure, and absolute security can’t be guaranteed.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated as the site grows or as services change. Revisions will be posted here with a new date at the top. Significant changes will be noted more prominently.
